Historic Fashions Exhibit and Bridal Gown Fashion Show at Castle Kilbride in Baden, Ontario

So is the buzz of last weekend’s Royal wedding still with you? Are you still in awe over the dresses worn by Kate or her show-stopping sister, Pippa? Well let me tell you about a new exhibit and upcoming fashion show happening at Baden, Ontario’s Castle Kilbride which will make the Royal wedding fashions an awful lot less spectacular!

Last year, I wrote an article on Castle Kilbride and the Livingston family for my Canadian Castles series and I was taken aback by not only the history and beauty of this wonderful place but of the community effort to restore it back to the time when James Livingston and his family lived here. So now, my friends at Castle Kilbride have kindly sent me some information about a spring and summer long exhibit and a June fashion show that you just simply cannot miss!

Running now until September 4, 2011 is an exhibit called “Dramatically Dressed”. It is an exhibit highlighting the Victorian and Edwardian fashions from the stage of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. These exquisite men’s and women’s costumes come from such plays as “The Merry Wives of Windsor”, “My Fair Lady” and “The Taming of the Shrew”. Many of these costume styles would have been very familiar to the Livingstons while they lived at Castle Kilbride.

Also, mark your calendars for June 12, 2011 as Castle Kilbride will be hosting a fashion show called “Livingston Dreams: A Historic Bridal Fashion Show at Castle Kilbride.” Here, you will be treated to a fashion show of original bridal gowns from Marie Voisin, Laura Lousie Livingston and other local brides that span back 100 years. Dresses that are too delicate to be worn at the fashion show will be on display for you inside. The afternoon will also include a tour of Castle Kilbride plus tea and desserts out in the garden. Now, can you think of a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon? No, I can’t either!
