  1. Hi,

I wonder if you could tell me if there is a place in the Cambridge area where you can get medals mounted?

I spent 31 years in the RCAF and CAF(1959-1990) and have received two medals since my retirement that have yet to be mounted. Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Andrew

  2. Hello Andrew,

I’m afraid I don’t know of one immediately in Cambridge but in other communities. I do, however, have a couple ideas for you to check out.

    1. Try contacting this fellow in London. He does medal mounting there and may know of someone closer to your area who can help you out: Jim Wellhauser at (519) 438-2623.

    2. Another option is to contact the nearest Royal Canadian Legion branch you might be a member of or which is close to you. Their administration office usually has a list on hand of medal mounters/cleaners. Are you also a member of the Air Force Association? They can help as well.

    3. The last option would be to contact Veterans Affairs directly in Charlottetown at 1-866-522-2122. I know they have a list of all medal mounters in each province. Alternately you can email them at [email protected] but it usually is several days before you get a reply.

I would say if you can’t reach Jim, then the Legion is your best bet. Thanks for your question. I hope that helps you out a little bit.

    All the best,
    Laura

  3. Deane Ellsworth

Do you have the birth/death dates of George Wilber Piercy, former President of Airchime Ltd., in Vancouver, and Bob Swanson’s right arm in inventing and designing air horns for train, mills and great ship at sea? It was in the 1990′s. I believe.

    Thanks.

    DHE

  4. Hi Deane,

I don’t have that info off hand. I’d have to dig. I bet if you contact the Airchime head office, or the Vancouver Public Library/Archives, they might have the info.

    Thanks for reading,
    Laura

  5. Roberta Swanson-Holm

    Hi to Deane and Laura,

Subsequent to reading the legacy and seeing Deane’s name, I found out that “Bill” Piercy passed on 24 February 1994. My parents organized a retirement party for Bill, however he passed away before the event. After all those years, he finally decided to retire and then passes on!

    Hope this information helps.

    Roberta

  6. Thanks very much, Roberta, for the update and clarification. I understand Bill and your Dad had worked closely together for a number of years. Sounds like it was a great partnership in invention!

    Cheers,
    Laura
